PostHeaderIcon The Creation of the 4G Network

June of 2010 saw the release of Apple’s long-awaited iPhone 4G. Since that time, Facebook patrons continue to see post after post about who ordered a new iPhone 4G, the cool features, and some of the expected bugs.

The 1G network, the first of its kind, was a product of the 1980s. When the 2G network surfaced in the 1990s, it increased the amount of communication per network channel. 3G, established in the late 1990s, has revolutionized communications across the globe over the last several years, being the first network able to provide multimedia applications. The creation of the 4G network may send communication well on its way to the sci-fi daydreams of transporters and flying cars.

A 4G network is the latest development in the evolution of the communication industry. A 4G network focuses on providing superior service, allowing you to download software, applications and files faster, providing a stronger reception and minimizing dropped calls and information streams.

This is of great benefit as more and more people are constantly on the go – everyone needs direct access to the Internet while on the move. A 4G network available on phone systems allows you to not only access the Internet from virtually anywhere, but in the palm of your hand. Talk about convenience.

Apple isn’t the only company to recently introduce the 4G network on its new iPhone. Sprint released the HTC EVO 4G, Motorola has the Droid X and Samsung has the Galaxy S. Comparatively, Apple may have stronger features, but the other companies offer products that are a little easier on your pocket book.

Regardless of which company you choose to purchase your next high-tech phone through, and even if there are a few bugs, the evolution of communications across the globe continues to cause jaws to drop. Prepare to be amazed.

PostHeaderIcon Choosing an LSAT Prep Course

From an early point in their educational careers, people take standardized tests. Some schools require students to take these tests to move on to the next grade level. Others are necessary for entrance into college. People who want to continue their education beyond college will take some kind of entrance exam, as well.

To enter law school, you must take the LSAT, which stands for Law School Admissions Test. Your LSAT score, combined with your undergraduate grade point average, will determine whether you get into law school. Because the LSAT is so important, most potential law students take an LSAT prep course.

Designed to boost your test score, an LSAT prep course will not only assist you in passing the test, it will also help you get the scores you need for acceptance into a reputable law school. In the past, instructors taught LSAT prep courses in physical class rooms. With the Internet, online LSAT prep courses are now available. When considering a prep course for the LSAT, several factors can influence the decision making process.

An important component in a prep course is the experience of the teachers. The people who teach the topic need to understand the type of questions on the test. It’s important to know the quality of the study materials. A good LSAT prep course will include practice tests so you can become familiar with the test format. Look for a prep course program that offers tips for achieving a high score. For many students, budget is another important consideration.

Online LSAT prep courses are usually best in cases where attending a class is not possible. These online programs cannot offer the personal guidance and group environment of traditional prep courses, but they can provide a wealth of information to help you improve your score. With any program, make sure to get referrals from others you know.

PostHeaderIcon Downloading Software Files

Whether you have a Broadband or DSL internet connection, you may have noticed that it takes a long time to download large files such as programs, videos, and music. Typical problems that users encounter are interruptions and slow download speeds. You probably think it’s your computer’s fault, but more often than not, slow speeds are caused by network-related problems. In addition, most people feel it’s beyond their control, but don’t fret; there’s always a solution.

The following are a few ideas to help resolve most software download problems:

1. It may seem obvious, but the first thing to do when you download software is to follow the instructions on your screen (step-by-step).

2. If you don’t have one already, it’s a good idea to purchase and install a download manager program. The Internet offers several free download manager programs, and you can choose the one you want.

3. If nothing seems to work, sometimes it helps to re-visit the website at a later time. For most websites, certain times of the day draw heavier traffic, making the download process much slower than usual.

Have you ever downloaded a software program that doesn’t seem to work at all? Although it doesn’t happen often, sometimes you’ll download a software program that doesn’t work. If this is the case, you can always uninstall the program. Setup packages that you download from the Internet usually come equipped with un-installation options.

If you use Windows, go to the Start menu, choose Settings, and then Control Panel (to open the Control Panel dialog box. From the dialog box, double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon to open a dialog box that contains your currently installed programs. You can scroll through the list of programs and select the one you wish to uninstall. Once you’ve found the program, simply highlight it, and then click the Remove button. It’s always good to know that you can remove unwanted programs that clutter your hard drive and slow your system down.

PostHeaderIcon Choosing a Professional SEO Company

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a big buzzword today. It’s important to anyone who does business on the Internet, because using proper SEO techniques on your website can help bring you traffic. When you get more traffic, the chance of getting more sales and a better bottom line goes up. Anyone who wants to make money on the Internet should pay attention to SEO, but getting it right is often easier said than done. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it can be difficult if not impossible to see strong profits from your SEO attempts. In that instance, you might want to hire a professional SEO company.

Getting a company to do your SEO work won’t be free, but the amount that you’ll spend on it should average out to be considerably less than the amount that you’ll start making from the people who come to your site and buy the goods or services that you have to offer. You have to spend money to make money, in many cases, but you shouldn’t let that stop you from doing what’s best for your business. As long as you can find an SEO company that is professional and that charges a fair rate, you’ll be doing your business a favor by using a company to help you.

Don’t just choose the first company that you can find. Check into several of them and make sure you’re going with one that’s reputable and honest. Especially if you’re new to Internet business or you’re not making much money yet, you can’t afford to use a company that won’t be fair with you. There are scammers in every line of business, but as long as you’re careful, you can find an SEO company that will be very professional and that will charge a reasonable price for the work you need done.

PostHeaderIcon Why an Antivirus software?

With hundreds of viruses being created every single day, all computer users should be aware of this growing problem. Viruses can attack a person’s hard drive, leaving their computer virtually unusable. Visiting web sites, opening email attachments, or even just clicking on what appears to be a harmless link could be detrimental to a computer. Antivirus software must be installed on every computer in order to prevent this. There are many types of antivirus programs available, and each can describe its uses in order to make sure that the computer user chooses the best option based on how frequently the computer is used, as well as for what it is used. For example, a person who simply checks email a few times a day would not need as detailed an antivirus software program as someone who uses the internet for hours a day, or for employment.

Some antivirus programs also offer protection for users who shop online, protecting credit information as well as identity. This is a necessity for a person who frequently makes purchases through websites, as hackers are able to track the computer usage and obtain personal information. Minutes later, a person’s bank account could be drained or credit card maxed out. Even worse, the hacker could open some type of account and begin racking up huge amounts of debt. Safety online is a must for anyone who uses the internet, and the first step is making sure that all computers have some type of antivirus software installed and working. A virus scan should be performed at least once a week, but preferably once per day to make sure the computer is clean and running properly. All computer users must be sure that an antivirus program is running on every computer they own, even if it’s just used once in awhile.

PostHeaderIcon 4 Ways to Hypnotize Readers with Headlines

Writing articles, essays, blog entries, and pages of content for your site can be a great way to get more visitors. Well written content goes beyond just tugging people in as well. If your content is good enough, you can create a spontaneous army of viral marketers – visitors who share your site via their own blog, their Facebook or Twitter account, email, or local graffiti. This well written content starts with your headline. To get the most out of it, you will need a headline so hypnotically engaging that visitors have no choice but to click on the link. Here’s how to do that.

1. Use Action Words and Catch Words

Be bold in your use of language when you write this content. Don’t just tell people that you will tell them about the “neatest approaches.” Tell them that you’re going to give them the “most killer techniques,” “approaches that are surefire hits,” and so on.

2. Be Current

There are plenty of news stories, viral videos, upcoming movies, and popular trends that are a part of modern culture. Make current cultural references that will catch peoples eyes, such as “Five Vampires that are Cooler than the Ones in Twilight.”

3. Give a Question, Not an Answer

The point of your title is to arouse curiosity in your visitor, not to provide them with a one sentence solution. Rather than saying “Ways to Improve Your Gardening through Creative Irrigation” you could say “Creative Ways to Improve Your Gardening that You Never Would Have Thought Of.” Remember that suspense is your friend.

4. Use Numbers, Lists, and How-Tos

Rather than just throwing out your content, number it or organize it in a way that makes it easy to read. “The Five Most Hilarious Movie Moments” is simply more likely to get visitors than “The Most Hilarious Movie Moments.”

If you’re looking for examples of what good headlines are, there is no better site to look up to than Cracked. Feel free to visit it now, and see if you aren’t sucked into at least one of the articles right off the bat.

PostHeaderIcon How Often Does Google Change Its Formula

Webmasters and search engine optimizers are constantly playing a game with the search engines, adding content and developing links in the hope of reaching the top page. Their battle will involve a large number of SEO weapons, and will take months or years to win. Webmasters are often frustrated by seemingly random changes in their rank. Frustrated site owners may scream out that it’s Google changing their algorithm, once again changing the rules of the game. But how often does Google really change its formula?

The answer may leave those frustrated web optimizers a little stunned. Google generally changes its formula five to ten times per week, adopting minor changes in order to fine tune the results for its users. While a webmaster may notice a drop in their site’s rank after one of these changes, most of the alterations to the search formula won’t have a major impact on your rank. So, why are these changes made?

Google pays surprisingly close attention to the behavior of its users. It has teams of programmers who look at information on how frequently users click through to sites for given keywords and categories, and those teams will often look into any searches that aren’t performing well. In addition to looking for glaring errors, Google makes additions and subtractions from their formula in order to get better localized results.

Despite these regular changes, the concept behind search engine optimization will remain largely the same. Developing high quality, relevant, and fresh content will drive more traffic to your site. Getting more links to your site from high quality sources will play a key role in your position. The rest, truly, is detail.

Still, some webmasters may see a massive change, for better or worse, in their sites position. While a change in the algorithm isn’t always to blame for this, major changes will sometimes shake things up in a dramatic way. However, according to Google representatives, major changes to the search engine algorithm are only likely to happen about once per year.

PostHeaderIcon Keys to Anchor Text

oogle’s first contribution to the world of search engines was a fundamental paradigm shift. They moved us from a focus on keywords into a focus on “popularity.” The robots determine a page’s popularity based on the number of links to the page, so link building has come to the gravitational center of the SEO world. One key aspect to link building is using appropriate anchor text. Anchor text will help increase the keyword relevance of your site far more than a simple URL link, but it goes beyond that. Here are some tips to getting the most out of your anchor text.

Use it, don’t abuse it.

It’s absolutely true that you should use anchor text with your links. However, you shouldn’t overuse anchor text. The key here is to make links to your site look natural and provide accurate information about where the link will lead. Rather than trying to win a war for a specific keyword, create links to highly relevant pages, and use relevant anchor text. Also, don’t be afraid to just use your URL every once in a while.

Diversity: it’s a good thing.

Instead of just using one keyword over and over again, use a variety of key words and phrases for your anchor text. This makes your links look more natural, which will help your search engine ranking. You can also use a variety of related keywords, which helps communicate to Google the general category of your site, bolstering your traffic further thanks to Google’s LSI engine.

Location, location, location.

Link location is incredibly important, and in more than one way. You should aim to get your link on the page that’s “closest to the top,” usually the index of the site linking to you. If you can’t get your link on the index, at least make sure it’s on a page that can be navigated to from the index, ensuring that you get as much link juice as possible. You should also aim to get the link at the top, not bottom, of the page, where it gets the most attention from both real life and robotic visitors.

PostHeaderIcon Safe Havens from the Dreaded NoFollow

In a previous entry, we discussed the terribly frightening world of NoFollow links, how they can harm you, and how you can avoid them. However, what we didn’t go into was the best approach to finding links that DO follow. Since this is of key strategic importance in developing your site’s page rank, we will go into it now. Here are a few of the great sites that are both well ranked and won’t slap you with a NoFollow.

1. Propeller.

This fusion site combines aspects of news sharing, social networking, voting or liking for your favorite stories and articles, and the opportunity to do some social bookmarking. And that’s right – the social bookmarking links DO follow.

2. Flickr.

This site is based on pretty, pretty pictures. Pictures of all kinds are frequently uploaded here, and an active social community then discusses and comments on them. Links that you provide in the picture’s description, believe it or not, DO follow.

3. Digg.

Digg is a complex network on posts and comments, where people are able to show their love for an article by “digging it.” If you create unique content and add it to the site, and that unique and wonderful content happens to include a link, then it DOES follow.

4. Squidoo.

No, it’s not a marine biology website. It’s a social network and forum that allows you to create miniature sites known as “lenses.” These highly customizable lenses allow you to create content in innumerable forms, and if you happen to include a link on the page, that link DOES follow.

5. Listible.

Let’s face it. Everyone loves making lists. That’s the obsession that this site was based around. You can come here and start a list of anything that you’d like, and find lists that other people have constructed. If you include links to sites in those lists, they FOLLOW.

6. Slashdot.

These guys were the original creators of the modern conception of social bookmarking. You can create stories and bookmarks here to share with the world, and if it’s good enough and gets, it might even make it to their home page with that DoFollow link.

PostHeaderIcon To Site Map or Not to Site Map

The creation and submission of a site map for your website can be a valuable SEO resource. However, there are many times when a site map is less beneficial or essentially unnecessary. So, at what point will you want to make a site map, and how can you do so?

What is a Site Map

A site map is simply an XML or HTML page which contains the locations and names of all of the pages present on your website. This is beneficial because it allows search engine robots to get to every page quickly, rather than relying on going from link to link within your site.

What Sites Need It

The bigger the site is, the more valuable a site map is. If the site is divided into different sections, with some pages lacking links on the home page, then a site map is very valuable. Even with high quality navigation, any larger site will want to create a site map. A good guideline is this: if you have more than fifty pages, you will definitely want a site map.

If your site is relatively small and contains links to all the relevant pages from the home page navigation, a site map isn’t strictly necessary. However, you can still get some degree of benefit out of one.

How to Make It and Submit It

While you can use the official guides provided by Google on how to make a site map, there are simpler options. A number of high quality generators can be found which automatically create a fully coded site map for you. You can then go through the generated list and double check that it includes all of the needed pages. If your site is especially large, you may need to invest in a paid site map generator. However, if you have fewer than a two hundred pages, you should be able to use a free version.
